RUGGED SELLS PRIVATELY FOR £20,000

A young Aberdeen-Angus bull carrying some of the highest performance figures in the breed has sold privately for £20,000.

Elliot Rugged P920, from John Elliot Jnr’s Elliot herd, is a breed leader for both Terminal Sire Index (TSI) and Self Replacing Index (SRI) carrying the highest figures of any calf born in the UK in 2014 and has sold to Abington Farms, Great Abington, Cambridgeshire.

Sired by Rawburn Dublin, the highest TSI and SRI rated bull in the UK Aberdeen-Angus herdbook, Rugged carries a TSI of +62 and an SRI of +76, with an eye muscle area of +8.6, well inside the top 1% of the breed.

Rugged’s dam is Elliot Rosebud E020, a Vermilion Payweight J847 daughter which is maternal sister to the £32,500 Rawburn Rommel.

Commenting on behalf of Abington Farms Simon Chaplin said he was extremely pleased to have acquired Elliot Rugged. “He is a correct bull with a strong top line and exceptional growth and frame. I have never seen a bull of this dimension at one year old from any breed. The bull weighed 770kg at one year old and at a continued growth rate of 2kg a day that could lead to a 400day weight in the region of 840kg which is just extraordinary. I have visited Rawburn a number of times and I have always been struck by the exceptional quality of their stock. To get such a correct bull, with such extreme growth potential and with Rawburn heritage is hugely exciting for us.”

John Elliot Jnr said Rugged had been a standout since birth and like his sire, is a real performance superstar. “His dam is one of the best cows in the herd and from our high performance Prairielane Rosebud line. We are delighted that he has gone to a herd with great ambition. We have retained a half share in the semen rights to Rugged and look forward to seeing his progeny in the years to come.”
